Legally India: Following a horrific rape/murder in India that has provoke a national (if not international) outrage, certain law associations have passed resolutions not to represent the accuseds. The resolutions do suggest that the accused may be represented by the Delhi Legal Services Authority. "Saket Bar Association president Rajpal Kasana told Firstpost: 'if the accused requires a lawyer, they can go for legal aid. That is
the fundamental right of the accused. An advocate from the Delhi Legal
Services Authority (DLSA) can defend the case.'”
I thought this was interesting. Today someone connected to the Indian Supreme Court came out on NPR and said it was unethical. I don't know much about this part of the world, but I get the message from both Pakistan and India that the Organized Bar is a political animal. They will demonstrate against the government in power at the drop of the hat, but they seem to bow to populist furor. Of course, one very well might in an unstable environment (like Washington D.C.). Does anyone have any experience in this neck of the woods? Years ago, I was invited to India, but could not go. No money, for one thing.
