Current students sometimes send me invitations to connect via Linkedin. I view networking as an important component of lawyering. The policy I communicate to students is, "I will accept any Linkedin invitation from a current or former student; don't feel you need to send me a Linkedin invite; I don't accept any other social media invites from current students."
Do you, or does your school, have a different policy? Criticisms of my policy are particularly welcome.
I don't say so explicitly, but I do exactly the same thing you do, for the same reasons.

I do exactly the same thing, but also do not announce a policy. It's rare that a current student "friends" me elsewhere, however.

I have the same practice, although I only announce it when a student wants to "friend" me on Facebook.

Same - LinkedIn only, and `yes' for any current or former student. It's useful for me because one of my responsibilities is state court student internship and post-graduate clerkship counseling. As to Facebook I don't even `friend' my kids.
