If you like milions of Americans are upset because your spouse charges way too much on the credit card, take action. First, tell him/her that you will not pay the next statement, even the minimum balance. And make sure to tell the credit card company the same thing. And then do the same with respect to the mortgage, the car payments and every other line of credit. Don't forget to include the electric company and other utilities. Your household debt cannot exceed its current ceiling no matter what and your household is shut down until your spouse agrees to change his/her spending habits.
Then to dramatize the situation, dress up in a three-cornered hat, waistcoat and britches and march around the house with a fife and drum talking about throwing British tea into Boston Harbor. When men in white coats come to take you away, tell them you are running for Congress.
Seriously, in just about any organization about to default on its debts someone -- often a lawyer -- tells the managers about the serious consequences of refusing to pay creditors. Is there any such person in Congress?
