The Houston Chronicle reports that a prosecutor has charged a criminal defense attorney for tampering with evidence when the attorney refused to turn evidence over to the authorities.
The attorney alleged that a prison officer had assaulted her client, an inmate. During an investigation of the assault, the inmate informed the authorities that he had kept physical evidence, semen, from the assault and the evidence had been given to his lawyer durng a recent visit. The authorities asked the lawyer to turn over the physcial evidence. When the lawyer refused to turn over the evidence, the prosecutor charged the lawyer for evidence tampering. Thanks to my colleague, George Dix, for bringing this to my attention.
