Story (and a link to the complaint) here. The FTC criticizes the ads as anti-competitive here. The FTC criticisms are sound.
With any luck, this challenge may lead to rulings applying to lawyer advertising the same rules that apply to other forms of advertising, and to lawyer speech that does more than propose a commercial transaction the same rules that apply to similarly situated speech. There is no sound basis for the Court's willingness to treat the preservation of the stature of the profession as a valid state interest.
