Here's an interesting article about eight general counsels at Fortune 250 companies who are apparently engaging in the unauthorized practice of law.
I have written on the subject of lawyers moving to new states, and I have found that the rules in most jurisdictions are unduly restrictive and may actually be unconstitutional. That said, in the absence of a constitutional challenge, it certainly seems advisable for these general counsels to comply with the licensing rules in their jurisdictions. If any of them want to challenge the rules in their states, however, have them give me a call!
