Based upon a perhaps incomplete reading of the record, I viewed the imprisonment of Paris Hilton as using special treatment to make an example of a celebrity. (FWIW, I credited the news stories that said that no regular person would have been imprisoned for that long, or under those conditions, for what she did.)
If so, what's happened since is regrettable but not surprising. That is, if Hilton was a scandal (i.e., a stumbling block) to the judge, then he tripped over it once, exacerbated the scandal, and now must return to the scene once again to vindicate his personal position. I won't be surprised if he trips once more. This type of law is supposed to produce finality, and this judge didn't manage the process correctly.
