Story here. Magic Circle firms predict bad consequences if the UK government controls the new panel overseeing the UK legal profession. In my experience, prior to the Bush II administration those sorts of complaints rang hollow in the US. Since then, we've had a resurgence of concern and rhetoric about the dangers of government power over the profession.
