The San Jose Mercury News covers the career of Gloria Allred, who's been involved in countless high-profile legal matters, including the recent affair of Meg Whitman, a candidate for governor of California. As always, some question if Allred's publicity-seeking actions are in the best interests of the client. [edited] I like to give a lawyer the benefit of the doubt, but I just don't see how this publicity does anything but hurt the client, severely. In the video interview with Greta Van Sustern, Allred suggested that the client had approved of the tactics, but I don't think Allred should have said that publicly and I do think that part of a sophisticated lawyer's job is to guide an unsophisticated client into understanding the dangers of a particular course of conduct. If her client becomes embroiled in litigation over fraud and her residency, Allred's publicity and Allred's breach of confidence that her client approved of those tactics can be used against the client.
