A new wrinkle in foreclosure cases has emerged in the 23 states in which foreclosures must be approved by a judge -- false attorney signatures on court documents. In a deposition cited in the Pennsylvania lawsuit, an attorney whose firm specializes in representing lenders in foreclosure cases acknowledges that he never read or reviewed many documents submitted to court with his signature, and that the documents were actually signed by staff. A consumer bankruptcy attorney interviewed by Pro Publica said that he thinks this is the "next huge issue" in foreclosures.
