Interesting story, with audio clip, at KPBS.org. Key sentences: "The case of Mexican-born Sergio Garcia - an undocumented immigrant - is unprecedented. It would be the first reviewed by a California state bar panel since the association of attorneys began asking applicants about their immigration status three years ago." More at SF-Gate.
It's understandable that Jerry Fishkin, the lawyer for Garcia, doesn't want to comment publicly, but it sure would be interesting to hear how the bar is dealing with this case and ones like it. I wasn't aware that the immigration question was being asked of applicants, and I'm not aware of how the bar is reacting to the various answers.
