The New York Times runs a story about delay in criminal cases -- and the role of defense attorneys in facilitating delay to benefit their clients. (h/t: George Conk's Otherwise blog) The ethics rules say that lawyers should expedite litigation as consistent with the interests of the client. The graphic is of St. Expeditus, a lightly-sourced saint who is invoked by litigants (among others who want things to move along more quickly), but in light of the NYT story he's perhaps invoked ironically by criminal defense lawyers.
