Mark O'Mara, the criminal defense lawyer who represented George Zimmerman has responded to news accounts that the Florida bar is investigating the defense's social media strategy and its fundraising site. O'Mara's statement is here. The statement includes a reference to a Slate article quoting our own Stephen Gillers.
As ethics guru and New York University law professor Stephen Gillers puts it, “Before the Web, defense lawyers played whack a mole trying to counter not only the adverse publicity leaked by law enforcement (not necessarily the prosecutor), but the stories reporters find on their own.”
I was impressed by O'Mara's innovate strategy to combat relentless media stories about his client. (I was quoted in this article.)
